At Bemidji Driving School we strive to make sure that student’s have a great experience in learning how to drive. We offer in classroom time and behind the wheel training. Bemidji Driving School is fun, safe and offers a quality drivers education program. Our instructors are compassionate and patient with the students. Our goal is to have each student succeed and learn safe driving habits.
Our instructors have passed FBI / BCA background checks and are licensed by the State of Minnesota.
In order for a student to obtain a Minnesota Driver's License they first must complete 30 in classroom hours. During the school year, classes are held at Bemidji High School from 3:15 pm- 6:15 pm Monday - Thursday. (Days and hours may vary) See Schedule for exact dates.
After completing the in classroom hours, the student then receives a BLUE CARD from Bemidji Driving School. Once the student has received the BLUE CARD, they can go take their written permit test at the Exam Office in Bemidji. Student must be 15 years of age at the time of taking the written test and have 2 forms of ID.
No appointment is necessary to take the written test. Contact the Exam Office at 755-3956 for more information.
Once the student receives a driver's permit, they are required to complete 30 hours of drive time (from the time the student receives their driver's permit until the time of the road test), 10 of which are at night, with their parents, guardian, or anyone 21 and older. They are also required to receive 6 hours of behind the wheel training from a certified driving instructor. Once the 6 hours of behind the wheel training is completed, your student will receive a WHITE CARD from their instructor. Bemidji Driving School offers this service by appointment only. Once your student has received their driver's permit there is a mandatory 6 month waiting period before they can take the road test. Unless they are taking the test for a farmer's license. The 6 hours of behind the wheel training must also be completed before taking the road test. Student's must schedule an appointment with the Exam office by calling 755-3956 to take the road test and receive their driver's license.

Students are required to complete 50 hours of drive time (from the time the student receives their paper permit until the time of the road test), 15 of which are at night , with their parents, guardian, or anyone 21 and older. Please note that if the parent program is completed, the required driving time is 40 hours instead of 50 which 15 of the hours are to be at night.

Bemidji Driving School's Drivers Education Program is more than just the basics. We offer a highly qualified and professional necessary service. Students are given an exciting, safe learning experience while developing superior driving skills. Students will gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and profiency necessary to meet the Minnesota State requirements for obtaining their driver's license.

1. Explain where the vehicles controls are and what they do.
2. Have your child start driving in a quiet area. For example: the Industrial Park or residential areas; then progress to downtown and let your new driver get as much practice as possible.
3. Remember, your child is probably going to be nervous and the more encouragement you give them, the more confidence they will have and the better they will do.
